[SMM Analysis: Titanium Dioxide Enterprises Issue Price Adjustment Notices, What Lies Ahead for the Market?] SMM data shows that China's titanium dioxide production in January 2025 saw a slight decrease MoM...
According to SMM data, China's titanium dioxide production in January 2025 saw a slight decrease MoM. In early January, due to a significant increase in the costs of raw materials such as sulphuric acid and titanium concentrate, the policy prices of leading enterprises remained stable this month, and most titanium dioxide producers maintained firm quotations. Additionally, nearly 40% of enterprises were either cutting production or suspending operations, while the existing producers generally operated below full capacity. The market widely expects overseas markets to stockpile ahead of the holiday. As the overseas market enters the pre-holiday stockpiling period, the export market can still mitigate the impact of declining domestic demand. It is reported that some titanium dioxide manufacturers faced tight supply and issued price adjustment notices. By month-end, titanium dioxide producers raised domestic prices by 300-500 yuan/mt. However, considering the currently sluggish market demand, whether the price adjustments will be implemented remains to be tested by the market. Titanium dioxide prices will continue to be negotiated on a case-by-case basis, with the overall market showing a stable yet slightly weak trend. SMM predicts that domestic titanium dioxide production in February will fluctuate downward, mainly due to fewer working days.

Silicon Metal Market Review for January and Outlook for February
In January, the silicon metal market experienced a relatively loose supply-demand balance, with a theoretical inventory buildup of approximately 30,000 mt. In February, both supply and demand contracted simultaneously, and the market is expected to show a tight balance or minor destocking. The current high industry inventory still requires time to be digested, and the sustainability of destocking remains a key variable affecting price trends and market sentiment.

A plant in northern China is calling for bids for indium ingots and bismuth ingots
SMM, February 6 - According to SMM’s investigation of market information, a large smelter in northern China began public bidding for a certain quantity of indium ingots and bismuth ingots starting yesterday. Market sources indicate that the starting price for these indium ingots exceeds 4,000 yuan per kilogram, while the starting price for bismuth ingots is above 150,000 yuan per ton. The bidding results are expected to be announced before the Spring Festival. Market participants note that, given the clear trend of sluggish trading activity ahead of the Spring Festival, the timing of this bidding is not ideal. However, the relatively favorable starting prices have generated considerable market anticipation for the outcome of the bidding.
